Plethodon glutinosus complex

Slimy Salamanders are a commonly encountered salamander in metro Atlanta. Recent genetic work has described 8 distinct species of Slimy Salamander in Georgia. In metro Atlanta, we have Plethodon glutinosus on the western side, and a 'zone of uncertainty' to the east. This species breeds terrestrially, and gilled larvae hatch from eggs but quickly metamorphose into juveniles, which resemble the adults.

Slimy Salamanders are KNOWN from both Fulton and Dekalb counties.
