Desmognathus monticola

Seal Salamanders can be easily confused with the Spotted Dusky Salamander. Seal Salamanders have a light colored, unblotched belly, as opposed to the Spotted Dusky. Also the dark colored back coloration abruptly meets the light colored ventral coloration on the belly. These salamanders can be very aquatic and are found in and around streams in the metro area.

Seal Salamanders are KNOWN to occur in Fulton and Dekalb counties.
